Christie and Ben’s wedding was fourteen months in the planning and was held in their home village of Scalby, near Scarborough. They had always wanted to be married at their village church and then walk to Christie’s parents house nearby for a marquee wedding, but we very quickly realised that the access to the garden just wasn’t going to be viable for this – so a change of plan! It’s all in a day’s work for us as wedding planners and working with our suppliers to deliver the best options for a client is a very important part of the planning process – even if it isn’t the news they want to hear.
So, together with Christie’s father we very quickly booked exclusive use of a local hotel including their site for a marquee, not without its issues as it was on a steep slope! Recommending a marquee company who could use scaffolding to level the floor was again very important, and I am sure you will agree it looked stunning, plus it was spirit level flat! Co-ordinating the dozens of suppliers involved throughout the week of this mammoth build required many spreadsheets, much patience and long days on site, and even when minor hiccups occur ,the couple and their family never need to know and can relax in the build-up to enjoy the journey and concentrate on their guests and being ready for the big day.
Working with a top lighting designer from London was a new experience for us, plus choreographers from the world of theatre for Christie and Ben’s spectacular first dance and having Paloma Faiths’ backing band The Faithettes play until the early hours was definitely a career highlight. But sadly, partying was not for us as we had to work throughout the night to clear the marquee for Sunday morning and then organise a post wedding recovery brunch before collapsing in a heap!
We hope you enjoy reading the story of Christie and Ben’s journey and gain a little insight into the work that we do to produce such an amazing day for our very special couples.
